I'm a man with a one track mind. So much to thrift in one lifetime

Before we Get into the Finds from this weeks Thrifting Let see some Highlights from Getting the MEGA-CD up to scratch, I have setting it up the best I can with the wires I have and burned of some of the Rarest games and ones for my own personal curiosity.

So I have the Yellow pin of the mega drive cable in the TV, and White and Red Audio coming from the Mega CD, Trying out Eternal Champions CFTDS, It has a whole host of extras that where not in the mega drive version as well as some awesome FMV intro.

Not even limited to Just the PAL games, There is a ongoing effect to convert SEGA CD games to work on PAL machine, You can do this yourself but UKCD project saves you the trouble converting Monkey island ready to burn from the off.

Of course the CD quality is a total plus but some games are so ingrained in pop culture its hard to tear you mind away from the cart version, The intro to chuck rock sounds better then the snes version but the charm of the MD version is missing.
Getting to try some games I have never heard of, Blackhole assault looked like another shooter turns out its a half decent 1 on 1 robot beat up'em, Think Rise of the robots but good.

Final Fight CD is the Mega CD's finest hour Pretty much acrade prefect with awesome voice and FMV, This is better then all the SNES versions and the GBA port years later Final Fight is one of them games that can be compared on so many systems but using my MD acrade stick makes this feel pretty special.
A Great Chance to try out some of the mega rare titles for the system, keio flying squadron could set you back £130 on ebay so the 15p cost of one CD-R to play the game on the original hardware makes the mega-cd a most worthy of investments for any retro gaming doing it on the cheap.

One more thing I found out about the MEGA-CD it plays CD+G these are normal Music CD's with low Res Graphics programed on the disc, Most of them are cheesy karaoke CDs but there are a few albums from the late 80s early 90s that have CD+G funtion on them mite try and track down some on the thrift be cool to see it working.

Pick up this old model Dazzle capture device for £3 its from 2000 so only mpeg4 quailty but I haven't any thing to connect old consoles to a PC and I don't think I will need 720p for Mega CD games, There is possibilities with this maybe some gameplay videos some youtube fodder?

Donkey kong Country for Gameboy colour for £1 this is epic had it a few times before and for £1 its going to get bought, Gameboy games are back in at the moment with the game boy just having its 25th birthday, Skills!

Moto Racer 2, I loved this game back in the ps1 era I ended up getting the pc game for the better graphics but the ps1 version still has its place in my gaming history and now I can slam it in the ps3 and kick back with a wireless controller its time for a revisit. £1

The first micro machines on mega drive £3 for this one over paid a bit need this to take pride of place next to the second game in the series on y shelf so made sense to pick this up this one only has two player and no multi tap on the cart still a classic.

£3 each for these master system games, shinobi, Psycho fox, Dracula, Shinobi is quite common and worth about £5, Dracula is closer to £10 and psycho fox is £15-20 on ebay so got a bargain on all of them.

Yeah that's ninja gaiden boxed and complete!!! whhaaat? £3 for this game it sells between £30-£50 depending on the condition this ones in pretty tiny shape and is sparing me on to pay the ebay price for a power base converter so the mega drive+mega cd looks even more awesome and can play this without having to set the master system back up what a find.
I thought that was it for the day ready to go home and proclaim myself the Thrift master for all to see on facebokk then I found this.

Atari 7800 with 2 paddle things from some old grandstand pong machine a nice clicky quickshot joystick and two official Atari 7800 joypads that are a total score in them selfs, £25 all in, Ebay you will pay a lot more for what was there, I took a gamble hoping it works.

Go on! It has a 8bit version of Asteroids built in and the 7800 is backwards compatible with mostly all the 2600 games witch is good because I don't have any 7800 games, I do however have the crappy port of PAC-MAN for 2600 and that's me playing it the only time anyone has with a smile on there face, Get it!

So glad this worked out, Some times you have to buy stuff blind to get a good deal If you pass up on something at a good price you will never know, If a Consoles £3 go ahead but £25 on a untested console is high stakes glad this one paid off now I can Relax, Now to ebay to look at the 7800 and 2600 games mite be a few worth pick up cheap.

Now that what I call Mega-Thrifty

Its a Great time to be a PS3 and 360 owner at the moment all the games are at an all time low in price and so much to catch up on, As well as the great superscription service you get on PS3 so while your PS4 is gathering dust and you can't find any batteries for you xbox one controller mite be worth turning your PS3 back on.
Stuff like PES 2014 for free, Most of the time if I watch a sports game I always buy last years for 99p when the new one is out so just to have the latest version dropped onto my hard drive is awesome value for £39.99 a year the cost of one game, Now I can get my Yorkshire orange on, Sweeet!

Of course I Still Like to have the tangible Items in my hand and for the collection, Above is a updated picture of my games room, Its starting to look like my very own Cash converters, I don't Think you ever really stop collecting, but my list of really wanted items is shortening I few more disc based early 90s consoles and I will be happy.

Tekken 5 for £1.99, CEX still sell this for £7, Cash £3 Trade £4, Its lasting appeal being that its the one with all the arcade versions of Tekken 1,2,3 on the disc so Totally worth having, for Keeps or for resale.

Bag a bargain indeed 49p for a loose mega drive cart is a steal and the fact that it happened to be the Terminator 2 arcade game, Yeah I am going to be buying that!
Star wars battlefront Renegade  Squadron and Ape Academy for £1.99 on PSP from Cash Generator for £1.99 these are an easy sell, For the longest time they had Ape academy in there for £3.99 then today the had a newer copy at £1.99, Cash generator never update the stickers with the cheaper price, Cant say I blame them, There stickers are a right bastard to get off.
Picked up this boxed mega drive for £30, I just wanted the games that came with it and that the choice you end up making all the time on the Thrift do I really want another megadrive? Just to get the stuff that comes with it, Of course you can try and skim of the top and get them to sell you the odd game on its own but 9 times out of 10 they want to sell it as a bundle, They told me this was complete and it wasn't no hook up and the Plug wasn't even a Mega drive plug it was only 7.5volt, The Mega drive 1 takes 9V, That's dirty putting random things in the box to make it look more complete then it is, And not moving on price I was trying to get them down to £25 and there reasoning for the High price was Its got sonic with it, Fuck me the search is over a copy of Sonic 1 and 2 how did I live without my 10th copy of that.
Well Its all good, People can try and pull the wool over my eyes and try and fluff up a Less then complete console when it comes with Stella titles such as these,
Jewel master £15(ebay) Street figter 2 SCE, £10(ebay) Mortal Kombat 2 £12-£15(ebay)Lemmings £5(ebay) Sonic 2 £4(ebay) Sonic 1 -50p(Anywhere)

This will be a decision you will have to make all the time and part of the reason I have 6 million mega drives in my house somewhere, So to get the retro bounty you have to Weight up the cost of a console bundle as whole VS the some of its parts.

There was a Reseller Just ahead of me on the Thrift Round market he was checking out this untested pile of consoles £3 each I left him to it thinking he will clean up, But he only bought the PS2's? So £9 got me a mega drive, cube and Dreamcast, The megadrive is bricked but the Dreamcast and cube both work so Total score with them only being £3 each and whats another broken megadrive on the pile its like a new pass time for me buying megadrive I don't need or want if only there was a way of breathing new life into this console I own so many of.
So My Girlfriend Was bribed £50 to amend some bad feedback on eBay by the seller, As if all I get off people on ebay is shit not £50 in my pay-pal, So she picked up this really tidy mega CD its even got the plastic extender to make it look the part with the model 1 mega drive, Even better that you can burn the CUE files to a Blank CD and they just work No modding needed, So I can Finally have a Crack at Sol feace and Shining force CD.

looking into the Mega CD found a weird coincidence, To the Left is a Picture of the Aiwa CSD-EX80 The First CD player I ever owned I got it for Christmas in 1995, I used to play music on this while playing Games with the sound Turned down.
Sort after now for spare parts for the Aiwa Mega-CD/Aiwa CSD-G1M, A Very Rare Aiwa CD player that could play megadrive games and Mega CD games that had a short run in 1994 how mad is it that the CD player of my child hood is so closely links to a Video game Rarity such as this, Never knew.

Did a few of my Local charity shops, The guy who works in one of them know I collect retro and saved me these master system game £1 what a lege! Robocop vs Termonatior, Moon walker, 92 Olympics, The condition is insane redefining the meaning of Like new.
The same guy told me he had a game boy with loads of games, A chance meeting outside a pub and £20 later I cut a deal with him and got all this lot.

Gameboy with case and magnifier, Tetris,Nintendo world cup,Spiderman 3, fortified zone, Tennis, Mario Land 2, bustamove 2, Alley way, F-15 strike Eagle, Golf, And f-zero on GBA, all the original gamyboy game came with the books, Not to shabby and the gameboy has little yellowing really nice con.
So final the got the mega-CD up and running, It really is so easy to get games for now all you need is the pal ISO, Just select the .CUE file with ImgBurn and burn x8 or lower and that's it your playing some mega-cd!

Now you can Experience the Narly FMV intro to Mortal kombat, A Remixed of gameplay and the 90s tv Ad, This verion is really good no need to enter the blood cheat abacabb like on mega drive and graphics better the the SNES version if you had this back in the 90's you was the shit!

I Found a hand full of really good Mega CD pal Iso scattered round the internet If you look hard enough you will find most of what your looking for mega CD what a wise investment along side the Dreamcast and Amiga CD32 its worth the price of the hardware to play all the software for The cost of a pack of CD-R.

Shop Smart Shop Thrift-Smart

What a colossal Thrift I have just been on, Man was I surprised Because I have been working full time I didn't Think there would be much about in town and east of the city I haven't had chance to get down there much but it was full of good scores lets take a look.

Picked up Space 3 disc edition, It was £2 in sells for £4 in cex, £1 cash £1.60 trade so not for resale but still coming in at whole two quid cheaper then standard retail price and its a cracking show got this to check the extras and rewatch the show because 40D is shocking.

Literally two days before I found Spider on PS1 for £1, My mate carl said to me "why haven't you found spider yet?" I told him I've been looking because its a game we both have fond memories of, So to see this today left me gob smacked! £8-£10 on ebay.

From the same shop, Sparks, Its an retro all-sorts kind of deal, I got Exhumed for £1, What a game this and hexen where great first person shooters with an twist to them mush of been the rage in the 90s you could bundle them in with all the doom clones but this has enough of its own thing going on to stand out.
And I pick up Metroid 2 for game boy had this a few times its strange the next major entry in the metroid series was on game boy but hey its not a bad game at all and £2 worthy of picking up.

Star ocean the last hope Strategy guide for £1.99 in cash generator £2 and under for any guide book is a fair cop, anything more then that is pushing it, I see there is a Grainger games stick on the front for £4.

This Reminds me of the Mega games carts on mega drive when you got 3 games in one, The last one I owned had Limbo,Trails,Splosion man, This one has outland,From dust, and beyond good & evil HD, For £2.50 what a steal £5 cash £6 Trade At CEX.

Random item goes to This Blockword game, This looks like the most boring piece of shit ever, The box photo how ever makes it look like the most awesome game ever, Strange the dad figure had his back to the camara? Like he is just about to lose it and smash the game across the room.

"why are you both so Happy NOILP isn't even a word!"

Resident evil outbreak, Fahrenheit, And GTA San andreas 99p each in cash converters all good for a bit of trade fodder, £1.40 trade for resi and £2 trade for GTA that is the lowest its gone for a while, Fahrenheit is for keeps.

Sword of the Samurai, I have heard this game is awesome and wanted to try it out, £1 in cash generator, Its worth about £10 on ebay so still good for resale too.

Since seeing Sled Storm a few weeks back on the thrift I have wanted it again so I scooped up that and Asteroids for £1.99 each in Banardos today I will pay £1.99 for ps1 if its in good shape £1 is more like it but depending on the title £1.99 is fine, pick up more crap when there priced at a £1.

Deception IV Blood ties, This Game is from a long ruining series called Deception on the PS1, To the left you can see the PS2 game Trapt, My girlfriend loves this game, Trapt includes a number of features that are also used in Deception an earlier game from Tecmo, So when I told her there was more trapping action to be had she was all over it, So out today I treated her and pick it up in Game. The first time I have seen a game be cheaper on PSN then in a shop, got to have a box with it, so hey.

And to wrap up I was playing beyond two souls this morning when the 3rd party pad I had didn't have six axis to play the game, The duel shock I have for the 60gb doesn't work with any other ps3 so I traded in for a ps3 pad and I had some Credit left over and Shenmue 2 was in CEX again, I have looked in there for over 5 years for that game and now its in there all the time of late crazy
