Cognitive Thrftonance

Before we get to the foray of Charity shops and cash convertors the first thing I did this time out is drum up quite a bit of credit with the trade pile I had going, Combining All the Classic Dr who dvd from last week with the run off of games I had amassed for there good Trade value.

I got myself a PSvita, I have always wanted one to take advanage of all the Free games you get with playstation plus So a £134 credit note later I bag one with a 4gb memory Card, Right from the Top 4gb totally Falls short if your going to invest in a vita 16gb or more, So I mange to sort a 16gb memory card out and got my free games on, Its a really nice device, Its like Some one took a Android tablet a Nvidia Grahpics card and a dual shock 3 and mash them all into one peace of tech, Well apart from any decent Flash support, youtube works great on it but nothing much beyond that, Sadly its something we have all come to expect with Console based internet experiances watered down half internet I don't Get why they do this? As for the Games some stand out stuff Uncharted is exceptionally good for a handheld game making good used of the Analogue sticks, Gravity Rush and Touch my Katamari very playable two, The sad thing is there is not much beyond that worth playing, I do want Dragons Crown But this is out for ps3 as well? Shame its going the same way as Wii U really slow release, I am sure these flailing consoles will pick up speed eventually, Just look at when the DS Came out every one was saying the PSP was done for and that had a Crap ton of awesome software come out for it, On the plus side you can play psp and ps1 on the vita, and for Trade I am not complaining even if it does suffer an early death I will probably ended up liking it more, Reminds me of the Dreamcast.

Right then pick ups, Starting us off Is Chameleon Twist, For years me and my mate hated this game, It turns out I hated number 2 and he hated this one non the less they are both pants don't let that Really nice condition Cart fool you £2.99 from Cash convertors.

Harvest moon friends of mineral town from the same shop For £1.99 They had a hold bunch of nice GBA titles but the prices where really close to ebay, It going that way with a lot of the Cash convertors lots of retro from the local shops turning up online way over priced.

Resident Evil Dead Aim in another Cash Convertors this one getting it right only 99p, I wouldn't mind giving this a good crack but I havn't Got a CRT tv anymore, Non of the old Light guns G-Con 45 G-Con 2 etc work on modern TV's.
There was a time when Old PC games had nothing in them, Then about a year ago interest seemed to peak, So now if I see one That looks Interesting and worth a go on before it gets ebayed and 50p for Realms of the Haunting why not.

Time Crisis Razing Storm, Paid £9, Really wanted it Just got a move and this had 3 games in one, Razing Stom Time Crisis 4 Deadstorm Pirates, I saw deadstorm Pirates in an arcade when I was visiting friends in whales, But that day I was way to hung over to have a go I just remember Edging closer to the Arcade cabinet with my two pound coin but the frobbing in my head kept pulling me back, So Finally going to get to play it, Incidentally there is no digital copy of this game on the PlayStation Store Its a Disc only game Strange?

Shadow the Hedgehog for GameCube I used to be miles more picky with GameCube games but there that thin on the ground now anything that's not sports seems worth while and at 50p Who's to Argue with that.
Black & White 2, Collector's Edition, Seems the case with most PC games about 5-8 years old as long as you get a nice looking special/Collectors copy it has more value this one was 50p from Dove house.

The Never Ending Story For 25p Yeah there is not much out there that's not worth 25p and a Nostalgia fest like this its a no brainer, Now I can A-B repeat Bastian saying the child like empress name at the end and try and ditherer what his saying "abaderyou" what?

Crysis for P.C the Depressing thing about finding this game is it came out in 2007 and I still don't have a machine that can run it at a decent frame rate may be next time I find this I will have a better computer and Screen shots living the dream, That been a laptop that was Top spec in 2011.

Titan Quest In a Tin Case for 50p, I think this is just the standard version of the game but the Tin Case makes it look cool, again 50p.
Worzel Gummidge DVDs £1 each, coming of the back of my Classic Dr who DVD logic, I pick these up the box set has Got £3 in it, But the single DVD are next to worthless, So I guess I have loads of Worzel Gummidge to watch not that I really Remember this that well?
The 70% off anything £10.99 or under is still going on at block buster, This time in my alternate local store down Newland avenue, Final Fantasy XIII 2 for £3.29
And This Pain Game that at First Glance I was thinking it was a move game but its just some mad Game you play with the standard controller but £1.79 the price is right, All The shops clearing out for PS4 and Xbone stock.

50p For these 3rd party High Grade Cables, One 3 pin and one S video, 50p each sealed up still in the packets Sweet!.

After sorting my Vita out had A 4gb memory card to get shot off and I had some Credit notes left over so Picked up Street Fighter Alpha Anthology and Grandia 2.

Be doing quite well Since I have Fired my 360 back up, I was Just going to play the campaign on Halo 4, Then the 14 day free code inside the box worked so I have been Playing It online quite a bit, Making a nice change from the old COD action.

Then My mates who don't Really play online had a look inside the games collection and Drummed up another 6 days for me what a beast, I wonder if you could ride this out for a year just buying cheap xbox games for the free code to get online?

Now and Again I do Find some good non game stuff out and about but £2.99 for a Guitar, Missing a string and a bit beat up but still in one piece and £2.99 to rescue a musical instrument Sweet!

Futurama Its a half Decent game based on the TV series I was going to add this to my collections next time I found it on Xbox, But £1 for the PS2 version is a good deal so hey.

Then I found It for £1 again in a The Next shop Down Crazy so I guess I will Stettle for one of these to go on the shelf and the other one can go to work getting me some easy feedback on ebay.

Teeage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Melee, Bit like the old school Snes games and £1.99 for a turtles game its a good price and in very good con.
Blow the dusted of the Guitar hero Guitars the other day, after getting a few of the 360 once I filled the gap with Rock the 80s on ps2 this one never had a next gen release and 49p its no sweat.

Been looking for this for Ages, Impossible Mission, Is a Remake/update of the Classic Impossible Mission for Commodore 64, This version Includes the original game as well £1 get in.

Rayman 10th Anntversary 3 games in one box all for 49p all books and discs in great con.

Again 49p For Ratchet and clank 3.

And On PSP The Simpsons Game and Tekken Dark Resserection for £2.50 each.
Paid a Whole £5 for this next game a Complete copy of Empire of Steel on Mega Drive plenty of money left in it about £10-£12 on ebay had to be bought, Copy's of Empire of steel don't turn up every day in the wild, its a cracking shooter with a cool steam punk look.

So Halloween Right round the corner I always like to play a horror game round this time, This Years choice is Resident Evil Code veronica X HD on 360, Its always got to be a resident evil for Halloween, Silent hill may tick most peoples boxes for a horror game fix but resi has always done it for me. People my like to watch horror films Or stuff the self with Chocolate I like to get my game on, But specking of Candy is that a big bar of toblerone on the desk that Claire Redfield is look at?

Anything You Want, You Got It

Has it Really been Two Years for Thrift bytes already? Not that It really makes that much Different to me, I have Traded resoled and bought a seemingly endless amount of games since the Megadrive/Snes era, Yet While I have catalogued my antics online over this pass two years It has expanded my activities somewhat.

This picture is from an early post 2011 About My gaming set up, For people into games its an interesting topic it always intrigues me to how other people have there shit, Like eyeballing someones old saves on a second hand memory card, Its a keyhole view into someone Else's gaming habits.

Jump to Present day and As you can see from the photo above My collection is off the hock compared to what it used to be, Two years worth of video game hunting all on display, That the thing with Games collecting In order to get the most games and consoles you need games to kick it all off in the first place, Games are the Life blood of the Thrift.
Like when I was a Kid I would Find a game in a charity shop or pawn shop Take it to game-station for the Trade and get miles more stuff out of it and that in turn would be Used to Swap and barter with my Mates, Then back to game-station.
Its the same principle I use today Only with being an adult
(I use the term loosely)
I make Money on the stuff I don't want to keep on Ebay, Its Just Path of the course I need money more then Games Ive got to Eat and you can't Eat games, Well you can Trade them in at asda for Food I have done that a few Times cuts out the middleman (CEX)
Plus I find Going Into Normal Retail Shops a right Come down When All you want to do is buy Retro awesomeness, The feeling of bracing myself for that big find before I go in the shop and coming out with something awesome, its a pretty full on buzz, total pay off after a full week of looking at crap like Prey and At the movies (360) when you find That obscure P.C game that's worth £35 or better still That PS1 game you where talking about the night before and wanted to play.
So If you want to build up a good collection on the cheap you have to Buy smart, Trade and hustle and resell. So essentially all the Retro Systems and games I have manage to obtain over the passed Two Years of Thrifting where born out of One Copy of final Fantasy X been Sold to CEX For £4 Its totally worth it.

So back to the Pick ups this time Round, We have a nice Tidy copy of Fallout 3 for Windows charity shop find £1 Paid.
Cex £1.30 cash £2 trade, This will do nicely for the Trade pile.
£1 for Dragon Age Ultimate The Trade is the same on this £2 but they sell it for more so about £5-6 on eBay for this one.
The Battle for Middle Earth on P.C, This is one of them hidden PC games that have cash in them about £12 on a good day the Sequel goes for more then that two, £1.

£2 for Knight of the old 2 on PC, It was Price up at £1 but the women was Adamant she charges £1 per Disc, Momentarily I was going to Try and explain to her how stupid that is, Instead I settled on £2 with her, £1 per Disc? At Least phantasmagoria would be on the money.

Bit of Command and Conquer Retaliation For £1, This used to be a lot more Rare But has levels out about £8 tops still good game good Price.

Grabbed by the ghoulies for £2 this game seems to be popping up all over the shop, So does a lot of original Xbox Every shop I have been in this week had at the least a copy of Enclave and Blood omen 2 on xbox 1... yeah you know what I mean.

Make your Kids super cool with this Stylish ATARI Lunch Box available at Scope, This looks more likely to be the 2004 Atari then the old school one.

Some Half Decent PSP games in Cash Generator £2 each Cex Still selling most of these for £10 apart from Daxter that's sells For £5 good Trade on them not so good cash, So Ebay will be the place for these to try and squeeze the Retail price out of them.

Just before I found These Classic Dr Who DVD I was Talking on the Phone to my Mate Carl We was on about the lost episodes that have been found in the news this week, Crazy this happens all the time I talk about something and then the item or something related turns up here's a run down on CEX value.

The Mind Robber               £3 Trade £2 Cash
Day Of the Daleks              £6 Trade £4 Cash
Tomb of the Cybermen      £5 Trade £3 Cash
The Dominatiors                £6 Trade £4 Cash
The Mutants                       £6 Trade £4 Cash
The Krotons                       £4 Trade £2 Cash
The War Games                 £6 Trade £4 Cash

The women in PDSA Rounded them off to £10 as well Sweet! the was two left I passed on Spearheads from space only £1 trade £1.60 cash and The Green Death £4 trade in it but the disc was really beat up. Might waited it out and put them on ebay or Cash Trade at cex ether way am up on this venture.
Bum ba dum bum ba dum bum ba dum bum bum bada wooo aaa wooo all the way to CEX lol.

And Finally Block Buster... Yes there still there, Had a Great Deal on I was only going in for a wireless 360 adaptor when I notice it was 70% anything 10.99 or less, So any thing that was £10.99 was £3.29 and £5.99  was £1.79, So for once Block buster was slightly cheaper the CEX and Cash Con/Gen, The games I picked all have a £1 more cash and A Few Quid more Trade in them but mostly picked them up to play, Right I am off to have a crack at eruption on Van Halen Guitar Hero Till next Time Thrift on!

Perpetual Motion

Lots of software about this time out, But first a few words about GTA V.

GTA V without a doubt is the best Sandbox Game of all time, San andreas re-imagined in HD with a hole ton of stuff added.
Some of the best aspects of other Sand box games have been incorporated into the game But refined and shrouded in Rock Stars new Game play, Its as if the best style and game play from games like Saints row 2, Mafia 2 and San andreas have been bottled up and used to Scrub GTA IV of all the Dull colour pallet and Annoying Characters, The Characters in GTA V and the story make the game, The Pacing is Great with every Mission Unlocking more and more stuff to do and the Dynamic of swapping between the Three main protagonists gives the Whole game a sense of scale that could be compared to any high production gangster heist movie. The game manages all this before you realize you can Jump on the back of a flat bed lorry throwing stick bombs into on coming traffic and setting them off as you drive away, The game is next to perfect in its Genre, I can see it been the Game I will end up picking up for £1.99 in the the near Future in charity shops because its probably still £7 cash £10 Trade in CEX 5 years down the line, Making the Life span of the 360 and PS3 a bit longer, Who needs a Xbox one or PS4, When the Current gen are capable of Running a game with this much variety and scope.

Kicking of the Thrift with a some Games from Cash Generator for 49p Each, Crash of the Titans, Ideally you want the 360 version of this goes for a bit more but there's still a few quid in the PS2 copy, Rise of honour I felt like having a go on, And Star wars Battlefront, For 49p, £2 trade at CEX or about £5 with postage on Ebay so at 49p Its win win, I put these on the Trade pile.

£1 For this Sims 3 Expansion pack, Nearly all the Sims 3 expansions have money in them, This one had £8 trade and £5 cash in it, You mite get near to the Retail price of £12 on eBay maybe a bit under £9-£12, So Trade at CEX is OK by me another one for the Trade pile

The Simpsons Hit and Run on PC this time around, Always gets around £5 on PS2, The Xbox version a bit more, CEX give £7 trade one of the only xbox games they still give good credit for, So interesting to see what the PC Version Goes for.
Age of Mythology on P.C for £1, A common game but a really good game always an interest, So someones always going to bid 99p at least on ebay, Worth it just to Get that feedback up.
Dead Head Fred For PSP, Seems I thought this was Rarer then It actually is, £3 a bit much for what is about £5s worth of game But at the very least I can have a blast on it, Looks like Dynamite  eddy mixed with zombies, Strange.
Fahrenheit On Xbox, Always a winner for £2 its a good deal better the the PS2 version, Works on 360, Plays like heavy rain, Bargain.
One more for this mini format war I am conducting this time battlefront on PC for 99p In really tidy con Recon this with fetch a little more then the PS2/Xbox counterpart.
I do love me some 2D Fighting games and £3.50 for Dark stalkers Chronicle in CEX It was time to route my wallet for a few Credit notes.

And The best of that Run out, Another Copy of Shenmue 2 with DVD and in very good con For £2 and Incredible game and a mind blowing price.

Couple of DS games unboxed, Mario kart DS and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Rings of fates, £2 each
Wizardry 8! For 50p in a dove house, It was the same shop I keep finding Jurassic park OG, Crazy, I mean There is a lot of P.C games out there not many of them are Rare only a hand full really what are the chances of them all turning up in same shop.

Same again only a bit better the Gold edition of Age of mythology with the Expansion pack and all that jazz, and cheaper 50p.

Woohoo! Crash bandicoot Wrath of cortex, I was wondering when a copy of this was going to turn up £1 paid for the best Version, Works on 360, goes for over £10 on ebay.
£1 for Grabbed by the Ghoulies another good xbox title to find, Works on 360 and its a pretty epic game to boot, Rare really did make an awesome game, Totally underrated.
The Bards Tale, Uses the Dark alliance engine, Its pretty funny and sort after, And 49p It has to be picked up.
This is the fruits of the Trade pile I got shot of About £6.50 worth of Crap comes to £24 Trade that will then in turn come to about £25 cash when I sell them on ebay.

Mario Party 5 and Mario Kart Doule Dash best games in CEX that day so it made it really easy for me to choose, There is a few other rarest games in there project zero 2 and 3 but the price is a bit high and the boxes are a bit beat up.

Sonic Rivals 2 Unboxed for 99p Never played the Rivals sonic games and 99p to find out if there any good is ok by me.

Nearly Walked pass this Box outside Cash Generator that had loads of Crap £1 each so I had a Dig around and come up with £5 worth of alright stuff, NHL 10 for £1 seems standard fair but unlike Fifa, NHL games are a bit thin on the Ground in Hull CEX £1.70 cash £2 Trade.

So making a little bread of this so far I looked the other stuff up that I found In the £1 bargain bin, Blazing Angels 2 Secret Missions of WWII, Comes Out £4 cash £5 Trade, Cex sell it of £8. Sweet!
Pretty Much Know Clive Bakers Jericho Is Dirt cheap every where, Always wanted to give it another shot, So £1 is OK, Same level of Tat as Prey Crackdown, and yeah 60p cash £1 trade so break even on the trade.

Same with Ghost Squad, Saw this on a Classic game room Review not so long back, Its a classic Arcade light gun shooter from SEGA Its pretty common and £1 is about all you would pay for it, All the sports Titles in the box must of made it stand out more, It happens, Sandwich anything between Fifa 08 and Football manger 2006 and it will look like the Rarest game in the world.

And out of all the DS games I can Remember was in the box the only one I picked up was the only one with money In it, £3 cash £4 trade, Sweet Glad I passed on More brain Training and beat the intro they where all a loss.

49p For Beat down Fists of vengeance Its a bit side scrolly not bad for under 50p

Broken Sword Directors cut and Nintendogs unboxed £1 each pretty good going for DS stuff this week.

Even More Xbox Originals that work on 360, Really have seen mostly all the best games xbox has to offer on the Rare Front, Fable, Conker LIVE and Reloaded, Starwars Knights of the old republic 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, all of them £2 each and all in really good nick, For a city as small as Hull Its really unfeasible I should be able to find so much quality stuff There really is only a handful of shops to go to, Think that's why I can't Stop going out and looking there's always something to be had.
